Yamaha Vmax restoration Part 5 (Fork yokes and Wheels):
Fork yokes fitted with new bearings and dust seals. I must say that the bottom race was difficult to get off. I resorted to cutting almost all the way through it diagonally with an angle grinder. Then with a flat blade screwdriver I was able to crack open the race.
Assembled the front forks and stantions were re-ground due to pitting and the outer tubes were powder coated silver to match swingarm. New top bushes, oil and dust seals fitted.
I had no problems, other than to clean off some powder coating around axle holes.
The wheels were stripped of bearings, seals and discs to get them powder coated gloss black. A couple of the disc bolts were awkward to get out due to rounding off the ‘allen’ socket, I resorted to grinding a slot in the bolt and then used an impact driver. Fortunately, they came out and didn’t snap off.
